“Together they played high energy folk and acoustic honky-tonk in a fashion that would have been right in line on the set of Deadwood.” – James Killen, Houston Music Review
“Pushing Chain believes in strong harmonies, kazoos, and sad songs. We believe in performing songs we’ve never played together, and jamming with people we’ve just met. That a guitarist and a fiddler can cover Hendrix if they want to. That music can cause tears and laughter, sometimes in the course of one song, and that there are still important songs to be written. That a good band will make strangers share a table.” – Pushing Chain
Pushing Chain was formed in 2012 by Boyd Blomberg and Adam Moe. The duo, which has been performing together in various manifestations since 1997, plays Folky-Tonk music featuring Boyd on guitar and vocals and Adam on the fiddle and vocals. Strong songwriting, tight harmonies, and their powerful Americana-Roots sound have been winning fans for Pushing Chain across the Midwest and beyond.
Boyd, former frontman for the national touring band, the Gooneybirds, is an award-winning songwriter, winning first place at the 2014 “River Falls Roots & Bluegrass” and awarded “Upper Midwest Songwriter of the Year”. With Adam Moe on fiddle Pushing Chain was chosen as an official showcase act for the 2017 Folk Alliance Region Midwest conference.
“With one guitar and one fiddle, the duo generates marvelous close harmony while unafraid to stray into dissonance. The duo’s vibe is infectious enough to be investigated by the CDC; anyone who doesn’t grin during the set must be immune to pleasure.” – Suzanne Cadgéne, Elmore Magazine (2016 Folk Alliance International Conference).
