“Over the last 16 years Cafe Paradiso has seen so much amazing talent come thru it’s doors. Musicianship I dreamed of but never really expected to see. Then in November of 2016 came Nolatet…beyond my wildest dreams. Four of New Orlean’s greatest musicians right in front of me. Oh what a night!” – Steve Giacomini, Cafe Paradiso
Johnny Vidacovich (drums) and James Singleton (upright bass) have been New Orleans’ best rhythm section since 1977, having backed everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Professor Longhair to James Booker. Singleton and Vidacovich can boast more than four decades of playing together, during which they’ve established themselves as New Orleans’ most revered rhythm section. Mike Dillon (vibes and percussion) and Brian Haas (piano) have been sharing co-bills and sitting in with each other’s bands on the same touring circuit for over 20 years. All four musicians are fiercely independent iconoclasts and bandleaders who compose, play and navigate their musical lives in their own unique way.
“Musically speaking, the Nolatet is fearless. The music ebbs and flows effortlessly, like rebirthing an amoeba,” explains Mike Dillon. “We have one of the all time great New Orleans rhythm sections in Johnny Vidacovich and James Singleton. Like any great rhythm section, they make you find parts of yourself that you never knew existed. With that as our foundation, there’s no telling how far the music can expand with each performance.”
Cafe Paradiso on Thursday, August 30th at 8PM is proud to host the return of New Orleans powerhouse quartet Nolatet. This is guaranteed to be a very special evening. Tickets are $15 in advance (available online and at Café Paradiso) or $20 at the show.
