and The Starlings. Drawing comparisons to The Carter Family and The Everly Brothers, as well
as more contemporary artists such as Gillian Welch and Kris Kristofferson,
their live shows feature an intimate look into myriad characters and
stories. With songs that “could have been resurrected from the mists of
time” (Maverick Magazine), they present a panorama of the human experience
through sparse arrangements and strong imagery. Shapter and James

Their debut album, was released to critical acclaim in July of 2006,
landing on several year end best lists, including NPR affiliate WVPE’s

This husband and wife song writing team moved to Fairfield in September of
2006 and promptly set up shop as a touring act booking dates all over the
country. After extensive tours over the past four months, the duo
returned home for the first Live on the Square concert on Memorial Day
weekend. It was a small but enthusiastic crowd that gave the duo a
standing ovation at the performance -- which was actually Live in the
Armory, having been moved due to weather. For the many folks who didn’t
find the alternate, drier location, the Cafe Paradiso show offers another
chance to hear what Victory Review called “a vivid, soul-stirring
journey.”
